First date
For the first visit it is necessary to bring the most recent blood tests performed, in case of diagnosed pathologies, the doctor's diagnosis and the list of drugs taken.
List of recommended blood tests:
Complete blood count, blood sugar, creatinine, AST, ALT, GGT, HDL and LDL, cholesterol, triglycerides, CRP, ESR, TSH, FT3, FT4, homocysteine, vitamin B9, vitamin B12, Ca, Na, K, serum iron and urine tests.
Food diary
Blood tests are used to evaluate the general state of health of the patient. However, this is not enough to create a personalized meal plan, as each individual has different dietary needs and habits.
That's why I ask my patients to fill a detailed food diary for three days, in which they write down everything they eat and drink. This detailed log allows me to understand the patient's eating habits and to identify any nutritional errors or imbalances. Plus, it helps me create a personalized meal plan that aligns with their tastes, habits, and health goals.
The food diary is an important source of information during nutritional consultations, but it is also a tool patients can use to monitor their progress and achieve their long-term goals. Together, we will work to create a balanced and sustainable food plan that respects individual needs and preferences.
No bioimpedancemetry
Many nutritionists use bioelectrical impedance assessment (BIA) to determine a patient's body composition, which includes body fat percentage, muscle mass, and other parameters. However, I have decided not to use this tool in my practice. The main reason I don't do the BIA is that I don't find it necessary for most of my patients. This evaluation can be useful for individuals who already have a good understanding of nutrition and exercise, and who want to achieve very specific body composition goals, such as bodybuilders or elite athletes. However, for most people, the focus should be on achieving a balanced and sustainable lifestyle, rather than on the search for a "perfect" body.
No Measurements
I have decided not to use these tools in my practice, including the scale, and I rely on the collaboration of my patients to gather information on their weight and their eating habits. Measurement of weight and other anthropometric measures I do not consider necessary for most of my patients. My philosophy is based on promoting an healthy and balanced lifestyle , rather than on achieving very specific body composition goals. Also, I noticed that weight measurement can be stressful for some patients and can lead to disordered eating behaviors. I prefer to encourage my patients to keep a detailed food diary, as highlighted above, and to monitor their progress through other health indicators, such as energy, sleep quality, digestion and bowel regularity. Using the scale at home helps reduce stress and promote a more positive, wellness-focused approach to managing your weight and eating habits.
